Special DJs!

We just received confirmation that there will be a special DJ set by Quiet Countries from 7-9pm followed by Conundrum spinning from 9pm on!

Thank you to both of these DJs for donating some of their time and tunes to help make this show a success.  We're looking forward to it, and hope that we have a good turnout of people ready to purchase some art and raise money for Japan.

Featured Artists and Craftspeople

We would like to take a moment to make mention of a few individuals kind enough to contribute to Rise Again.

Eric Boyer

To view one of Eric Boyer's mesh sculptures in person is to only scratch the surface of understanding his fascination with the human form. Eric's love of richly expressive hand-shaped steel mesh breathes distinct life and movement each piece generating a playful inner storyline. Based in Portland, Oregon within the CODA Gallery Studios on Distillery Row, Eric continually produces impressive work and is a valuable member of the Portland artist community.

Cantilever and Press is a product of Vancouver, BC resident Matt Hornland. Using reclaimed wood Matt designs and builds functional accessories for the home and office. Much of his work explores the interesting juxtaposition of sleek urban minimalism and the organic chaos of natural form. As stand-alone objects these hand-crafted "wood goods" have an understated way of adding warmth to a room, and in their functionality they politely compliment the items hanging from them.

We are honored that Eric Boyer and Cantilever and Press, as well as the rest of our artists put forth the thought and consideration to donate to a good cause. Please stop by Saint Furniture on the evening of Friday, April 1st, to view their work, help us raise money for the Japan Relief Efforts.

Ways to Help.

Art and it's creators often express an interconnectedness with community on a large scale. This sense of community is why so many northwest artists have had a strong reaction to the recent events in Japan donated to this show. We do hope many people are able to attend to support this international community by helping us raise money. Simultaneously we encourage all to donate to the relief efforts in Japan however they are able.

Here are number of ways to help both locally and internationally:

TONIGHT: Portland Taiko, in coordination with the Portland State University Department of Music, will be giving a benefit concert March 22, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in Lincoln Hall Room 175. Admission is free, donations will be accepted.

From Oregon, with Love Concert at the Aladdin Theater, Sunday March 27, 7:00 pm

Mercy Corps is offering an Oregon Japan Relief Fund.

The "International Fund for Animal Welfare will soon be deploying a team to assess needs regarding animal rescue. They are encouraging support through donations, which will be used to buy pet food, veterinary supplies, vaccines and other necessities for animals needing help.

And Huffington Post offers a very comprehensive list of ways to donate funds online.
